EDM: Spring Festival Preview

In these achingly cold temperatures, plotting a warm getaway is a great way to distract yourself from the misery of being stuck inside for months on end (and no, I don’t do winter sports … and yes, I did just return from a wonderful trip to Disney World).

Even if you don’t have the opportunity to make it somewhere more bearable right now, these Eastern-USA music festivals, which feature a host of major electronic music artists, could tempt you into planning a quick trip.

BUKU Music + Art Project: This festival’s lineup features Borgore, Gramatik, and of course, Bassnectar. Sounds like a fun way to reel in the warmer season (a week before spring begins) New Orleans, March 13 – 14. No camping.

Ultra Miami: A purely electronic festival, this year’s lineup includes Skrillex, David Guetta and Alesso. And the location is ideal for a toasty break from the north. Miami, March 27 – 29. No camping.

Mysteryland USA: No lineup yet, but this “electronic music culture and art” festival, which originated in the Netherlands, is still receiving plenty of hype. Last year’s performers included Kaskade, Moby, Steve Aoki, Dillon Francis and Flosstradamus. Woodstock Grounds in Bethel Woods, New York, May 22 – 25. Camping optional.

Counterpoint: Three stages, art installations and activities (and, aside from EDM acts, plenty of awesome ones — like The Roots — for a bargain. Electronic acts include Zedd, Dillon Francis and Knife Party. Kingston Downs, Georgia, May 22-24. Glamping optional.

The Governor’s Ball: I’ve got my tickets for this one! I’ll be joined by the likes of Deadmau5, Big Gigantic, SBTRKT and Ratatat, who stand out in a lineup that’s mostly composed of alternative rock acts, with side helpings of electronic and hip-hop peppered in. Randall’s Island, NYC. No camping.
