EDM: The Temp Ain’t the Only Thing Droppin’ Over Here, Honey!

With summer waning and autumn nearly upon us (how?!), it’s time to look ahead at some of the best upcoming local EDM events.

Celebrate in the sun one more time at Sunday Funday, an outdoor event to be held at Tikki Beach (aka, Paddy’s) in Westerly on September 6. House DJ/producer Jus Jack will be on-hand to deliver tunes to a crowd of bathing suit-clad partiers. Tikki Beach is a beautiful spot on Misquamicut Beach where partygoers can catch a tan, swim or drink (what else?) when they’re not dancing (does such a time exist?). Set your alarms, folks, because Sunday Funday kicks off at noon. The event is 21+.

Eclectically influenced Australian DJ/producer Wax Motif (who released his latest EP on Diplo’s Mad Decent label) will drop by Lupo’s on Friday, September 11 to bring his unique take on booty (AKA ghetto, or G) house to the Ocean State.

On Saturday, September 19, local art and music will collide for a psychedelically super dope event like no other! R.I.’s Tight Crew (TC) will hit the Tri-State Speedway (Dudley, Mass.) for Blacklight Ruckus Live (the sixth edition of a wildly popular party they’ve thrown since 2010).

What doesn’t this installment of Ruckus have? Free with admission are displays of live interactive art, an arcade, bumper cars, a candy-making  area and the return of TC’s uber-popular “chill room.” Speaking from personal experience, the chill room is not just a good place to go to regroup away from the rest of the party for a moment; it’s also a place where friendships are forged. Did I mention mini golf!? Yeah, this party sounds like it’s worth the short drive to me.

Electronic music group of all trades Beats Antique is playing Fete’s Creature Carnival on Friday, October 2. Beats Antique is known for incorporating performance art and live percussion into their shows, as well as their unique blend of genres, so this show isn’t to be missed, either!

Zedd will play URI’s Kingston Center on Friday, October 6. The next night (October 7), Michal Menert & the Pretty Fantastics play at Fete. Menert is best known (rather, not known) for co-producing a couple of Pretty Lights’ albums, and he has been signed to their label since 2010. His first solo album dropped earlier this year.

Because there is so much to do and see on the local EDM scene in the coming weeks, transitioning into colder weather doesn’t seem quite so bad this year.
