Letter to the Editor – from Greg Gerritt – Boston Olympics and Providence Stadium Project

On July 28 the headline in the Providence Journal was “Boston out as 2024 US candidate” referring the end of the bid by a few people to convince the people of Boston they should upend their lives and pledge huge public resources so a few folks could make a fortune on the 2024 Olympics if they were held in Boston.  The effort to make Boston the host of the Olympics was the same kind of millionaire lead effort that Rhode Island and Providence are experiencing in the effort to build a baseball stadium for the uprooted Paw Sox on the Providence waterfront.  The Boston Olympics were stopped by concerted citizen efforts, and based on the turnout at a meeting at Rochambeau Library on July 27 and every other event where the public has discussed the issue, the stadium is not going to be built.  It has gotten so bad that Charles Steinberg is going to ever more desperate means to avoid answering hard questions on his listening tour.  It is time for the millionaires to turn the clown car around and go home.  Not on our waterfront, not with our money.
