Obituary — Megan Marie “Megz” Serafine: “tireless advocate for the creative arts”

Megan Marie “Megz” Serafine, a member of the Motif staff a few years ago, unexpectedly passed away due to a medical event in her sleep on Nov 7, a few weeks before her 37th birthday. In Providence after relocating from her native St. Petersburg, Florida, she was a tireless advocate for the creative arts ranging from music to painting to candle-making. A chef who worked in the kitchens of many, if not most, of the dining establishments of PVD, she was known for hosting dinner parties, both planned and impromptu, whenever the opportunity arose to share meals with friends. On social media, she described herself as “Chef. Leftist. Queer (Pan/ Bi). Artist.” and her politics as “DO NOT ADD ME IF YOU SUPPORT TRUMP.” She is survived by partner Matthew “Sage” Dotson, father Marc Serafine, step-father Patrick Cotter, and two step-brothers. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in her name to The Network/La Red tnlr.org. Memorial services were held Nov 19 in Providence and will be held Dec 2 in Tampa.
