When you hear that a band that you used to follow is getting back together after a long period of not releasing music, you’re not quite sure what to expect. You conjecture that maybe they’ll be acting as a cover band of their former glory, playing the same setlist they played twenty-five years ago. However, […]
There’s no feeling quite like finally being able to fully step into your own, to truly embrace your whole self and carry yourself through the world with that mentality. Not an identity that other people have come to expect of you, but the identity that is actually true to you. That’s what country artist River […]
Okee dokee folks… Last weekend I went on a ten-hour, each way, road trip to play a show. The drive wasn’t so bad, but the music was horrible. As I have mentioned before, I rarely listen to the radio and generally prefer silence when operating a vehicle. If I do listen to anything, it’s 88.1 […]
The hood was unceremoniously torn from over the young man’s head. A tall, gaunt man in antiquated clothing peered at him, his face mere inches away. “And who do we have here?” hissed the man. The young man gasped and his mouth dropped open as he stared into the eyes of the person before him […]
Wards 2, 9 and 12 all report the same. Mendez wins in each! It appeared that Providence was perfectly poised to usher-in its first female mayor in history. The polls were closed and final results for each of the fifteen wards were starting to trickle in. There was a sense that something monumental was occurring, […]
“You’re late, Brother,” she said, hovering outside the weathered cottage near a pebbly beach, indistinguishable from the shadows cast by moonlight that hit the thick hydrangeas. It was late in the evening of a seawind-chilled Thursday in early summer on Block Island. “I miscalculated, Sister, and manifested in Port Judith,” he explained. “So I took […]
The NecronomiCon is a biennial celebration of the works of HP Lovecraft and beyond, and throughout the genre of “weird fiction.” Centered in downtown Providence, it boasts four days of literary panels, readings from various authors, tabletop gaming, vendor halls, and guided walking tours which showcase locations described in Lovecraft’s stories. It is a four-day […]
It’s almost Cthulhu – pardon my hiccup, I meant, “election” – season again. And if the tactics of these times don’t make your head swim and your bowls ache, as if you were being eviscerated by a barely-seen eldritch horror, well … you must have turned your phone off. The parallels abound. Do the reddish […]
When cover artist Bob Eggleton of Warwick first got interested in art and started sketching nightmarish creatures, he recalls, an aunt asked him, “What’s drawing a monster gonna get you in life?” He’s spent the last forty-three years showing her, along with the rest of the world. Between 1994 and 2004, he won the Hugo […]
There is no shortage of musicals that have been record-breaking successes in the West End but flop upon their transfer across the pond to Broadway. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1984 rock musical Starlight Express, for instance, ran for 7,406 performances in London but only 761 in New York. More recently, Tim Rice, Benny Andersson, and Björn […]
