If you’re a fan of punk and hardcore, then Madball and Agnostic Front are two bands you have definitely heard about. And both bands are bringing an early Christmas present to Providence this December. Madball is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album Set It Off. This album is one of the most influential for […]
Okee dokee folks …’tis the season … again. I don my best Ebenezer attitude and try to stay away from stores and holiday gatherings. Shocking (still) to some, I do not celebrate the holidays. This has been going on for over 25 years. Some folks get it, some are envious and some get angry, while […]
Years ago, I narrowly met Mark Erelli. We were two of three finalists in a songwriting competition. I say narrowly as we were both backstage, pre-performance, practicing – no time to talk. I do not remember the winner’s name, but I do remember Mark Erelli. I remember Mark Erelli because Mark Erelli works very, very hard […]
1. Saturday, Dec 6: Teazer (one year anniversary!), Hector 3, Bad Motherfucker; $?; 9pm doors; 21+ only; Dusk, 301 Harris Ave, Providence. Where was Rhode Island one year ago, before the birth of Teazer, a band that has been seen from as far as Warwick to the North County of Pawtucket? One year before the sultry sounds of […]
I was getting ready to close out the year scrambling to get some reviews in that I missed for our final 2014 issue till those bastards at headquarters informed me … we’re going twice a month. Lately I’ve been hearing people talk about how much they miss the ’90s. Yeah — the decade was cool. Flannel, acid wash jeans, weird hair cuts, Surge (thank god it’s back) and Nintendo 64 were in style, and Seattle was the mecca of music for most of those years. There was also Milli Vanilli and […]
Last Monday, former Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry released his 15th studio album, Avonmore. The album was produced by longtime Roxy Music/Ferry associate, Rhett Davies, but he also got some help from a long list of talented musicians, most notably Nile Rodgers of Chic (and everything lately) and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. […]
When it comes to the music coming out of Rhode Island, The Ocean State’s rhythmic roots stretch far and wide. Take, for example, Brooklyn indie rock act Silverteeth consisting of Brazilian musician Gabriella Rossi and Charlestown, RI, native Bill Bartholomew. The band recently released a music video for the song “Shoes,” so I had a […]
With so many genres that have been established over the past half century, it can be very challenging for a band to keep it weird and create their own identifiable sound. One band that has always separated themselves from their contemporaries is Brooklyn experimental art rock act TV On The Radio. They have a brand new […]
Ever since the start of their own record label with Rhymesayers Entertainment and the release of their debut album Overcast! during the mid-’90s, Minneapolis hip-hop duo Atmosphere has risen to be one of the biggest names in independent music. Recently I managed to have a chat the MC of the duo in Slug about the […]
