Head Trick is returning to its roots with a classic Shakespeare in the park. As the opener of their 2018-19 season, themed “Making a New World,” this is the first of three forays into reimagining classic plays as escapism, as seen from the perspective of women, the LGBT community and people of color, rather than […]
As far as festivals go, Rhode Island, in general, and Providence, in particular, has more than its share. Several of them focus on the Performing Arts, including AS2220’s FooFest and the City’s PVDFest, which both feature live performances, but The Providence Fringe Festival (better known as FRINGEPVD), focuses on theatrical presentation, traditional and devised and […]
Director Joanne Fayan has returned to Epic Theatre Company “to helm the first of two summer shows that look at life and love from every angle of the imagination,” as written on the official Constellations Facebook page. When Nancy Patiño and Francis Parra opened Teatro ECAS in 1997, they did so because they knew there were stories that were not being told and audiences that were not being reached. Parra, who is the company’s artistic and creative director, studied theater in Dominican Republic and was disappointed by the lack of options for […]
When I was in my teens and still amassing a music collection, I was eager to catch up on the classic rock and pop acts that had made their mark just prior to my getting seriously into music. To that end, I was gobbling up greatest hits collections by powerhouse acts from the ’60s and […]
